Introduction GENERAL INFORMATION The Greenbox Dictionary is the result of research we are doing into the visual arts of Saudi Arabia and aims to manage this research publicly. The dictionary is intended to funct ion as a service of quick reference for ourselves and for visitors of our site. By making it public we hope it will leverage its own quality when users react with new information or better, with marvels. The dictionary has an alphabetical index of artist's names and links those names to a separate page for every artist. The work on the dictionary has started on October 15, 2008 so both index and content pages are very much incomplete, but under permanent construction. ARTISTS In the dictionary we are listing visual artists from Saudi Arabia who feature on the internet or in international or national publications and collections. For the time being we list most 'things' we are finding, including graphic designers, visual communicators and amateurs who present just a few photographs on for example deviantART, unless they appear to be very young or without any sense or vision. Artists and users who find information in this dictionary incomplete or erroneous are kindly invited to provide us by e-mail with improved information. Such information would be of much help and we have a special e-mail address for it: dictionary@greenboxmuseum.com Artists who are not Saudi Arabian by nationality but have lived and worked in this kingdom are most likely to be included as well as artists who have only visited the country but have used Saudi themes in their work. IllUSTRATIONS We aim to have for information purposes a few illustrations for every artist and will consider suggestions as to the choice of such illustrations which are given to us by artists themselves. When we find illustrations on the internet with no direct contact information for the artist we will sometimes use the illustration but will react to any requests to remove or change it. Illustrations that are provided and can be downloaded for sales purposes by galleries or others we feel free to use. We will provide a link to the gallery for their and the artist's benefit. CONTEMPORARY ART We wish to list all we find. However, to cater to those who think things new or important are more interesting, we say they may be wrong, but we will provide for their hungry eyes an asterisk (*) with the names of artists who have shown their work in recent international exhibitions such as the biennial in Sharjah or Edge of Arabia in London. We will not list prices as not to interfere with genuine market considerations artists and gallery owners may both have. SPECIAL SECTION In a separate section "intitutions, schools, exhibitions, events, collections, museums, etc." we will list information on such things. OTHER INFORMATION The Greenbox Dictionary is published by The Greenbox Museum which reserves all rights but allows any user to print pages with artist information and allows any user to include such information on their website as long as the correct source is mentioned or linked and the material is used in an appropriate, that is respectful, manner and as reference only.
